SJC Tosses Springfield Conviction Because of Bad Dating

The conviction of a man accused of  burglary in Springfield is getting tossed by the Massachusetts Supreme  Judicial Court.

The judgment from Springfield District Court in 2013  was reversed Tuesday for Eric French, who was accused of breaking and  entering into a neighborhood market and stealing hundreds of dollars'  worth of cigarettes.

The decision was based on the argument that  fingerprints found at the scene that were said to be French's could not  be dated to tie him to the crime.

The court's decision comes after a  split decision by the state's appellate court.
