The Springfield Police Department is issuing a cease-and-desist order against a head shop giving away "free" marijuana for people who pay a cover fee to enter the store.
The store, called Mary Jane Makes Your Heart Sing, was shut down by police following the order Wednesday after it was reported the business was skirting around Massachusetts law regarding legal recreational weed.
Currently, people can own pot and grow it, but can't purchase it from a store until 2018.
Two city councilors, Orlando Ramos and Mike Fenton, had called for the facility to be closed ahead of the police shutdown.
