More details are public about the man arrested for allegedly abducting, raping and murdering Agawam resident Lisa Ziegert.
Gary Schara of West Springfield and formerly of Longmeadow waived extradition in Rockville Superior Court in Vernon, Connecticut on Monday shortly before Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced that authorities had made an arrest in the 25-year-old case.
Gulluni says Schara fled to Connecticut after state troopers and Agawam police officers tried to find him, and was located over the weekend after apparently trying to kill himself.
The district attorney says Schara admitted to the murder in hand-written documents.
It's not clear if Schara and Ziegert knew each other prior to her disappearance.
Schara was brought to the Agawam Police Station for processing last night before his arraignment later today in Westfield District Court.
