Connecticut Plan For Open Tolling

Democratic leaders in the state House  are drafting legislation that would bring electronic tolls to state  highways.

Top Democrats gathered at the state capitol complex in  Hartford yesterday to announce their effort.

The leaders say the gas  tax has remained flat because of more fuel-efficient vehicles and the  state needs more revenue to pay for transportation infrastructure.

Legislative Republican leaders oppose the return of tolls, calling it  another tax on state residents.
