AG Wants End To Independent Electric Suppliers

Attorney General Maura Healey is  calling on the legislature to end the practice of independent suppliers  selling electricity to consumers.

Healey says customers who changed to  independent suppliers between 2015 and 2017 paid 180-million-dollars  more than if they just stayed with their utility.

She says a pattern  has been exposed that these independent suppliers target low income and  minority neighborhoods with aggressive sales tactics.

Healey says  shutting down the market is the best way to protect residents from  scams.
