Commission Approves Hamp Pot Shop

The Massachusetts Cannabis Control  Commission is approving an application for a recreational marijuana  business in Northampton.

New England Treatment Access, which already  operates a medical marijuana dispensary in the city, was one of two  entities to receive a retail license on Thursday.

Recreational sales  were originally scheduled to start this month but the state commission  still has to approve a testing facility before that can happen.

Meantime, Steve Hoffman the Chairman of the Commission is warning that they will be looking very deeply into host agreements between communities and companies.

Hoffman says there are some reports that cities and towns are looking to tax recreational pot at a higher rate than the three percent provided by law.

Hoffman says the law is the law for both the seller and the host.
