Northampton Opposes Pipeline Expansion

Activists are pushing against a  pipeline project by Columbia Gas running from Holyoke to Agawam.

The  Northampton City Council voted to oppose the project at its meeting on  Thursday, while those in attendance criticized Columbia for the  gas-fueled explosions that occurred in northeastern Mass last month.

Protesters also marched to Holyoke yesterday to deliver a letter to  Holyoke Gas and Electric and city officials.

The addition to the pipeline would include a two mile loop from Agawam to Holyoke.

Some residents say they are scared after the explosions in Andover and in Lawrence.
