Fewer Prisoners In State Jails

Massachusetts has among the lowest rates of incarceration in the state.

According to the Vera Institute of Justice Annual Review, the state has just under 87 hundred prisoners in the state system.

That’s 126 people per 100 thousand of population.

Connecticut, a much smaller state has more than 13 thousand prisoners a decline of about 2 and a half percent.

Massachusetts down just under 5 percent.

The report says prison populations dropped in 39 of the 50 states.
