Done Deal-_Stop And Shop Workers Ratify Contract

A new contract is being ratified for Stop and Shop workers in Western Massachusetts.

Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1459 voted in favor of the deal in Chicopee on Wednesday.

The Western Mass union was the last of the five New England locals to ratify.

About 31-thousand workers went on strike for a new deal last month; the strike lasted eleven days.

The benefits of the new deal include higher wages for full-and-part-timers, including continued Sunday premium pay, and pension protections, according to union officials.

No specific numbers were released.
