ACLU Challenges Cape Cooler Search

The ACLU is objecting to a controversial policy in Dennis calling for random searches for alcohol in coolers brought to the beach.

The Cape Cod Times reports town officials had on the agenda on Tuesday a closed-door discussion of the policy, which was put in place to rein in rowdy behavior at the beaches.

The ACLU is calling for the policy to be suspended because it says it violates the U.S. Constitution's Fourth Amendment.

Town Administrator Elizabeth Sullivan declined to answer questions yesterday about whether the policy has been suspended.
