Sarno Takes Issue With City Council Resolution

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno isn't going along with the state's acceptance of more refugees. Governor Charlie Baker has notified the White House of consenting to accept refugees after President Trump signed an executive order in September requiring state and local governments with such plans to make public declarations.

But last week, Sarno went against a unanimous Springfield City Council resolution, saying he would not issue a similar letter of consent.

Sarno said in a statement that Springfield has proudly done more than its fair share on the issue of accepting refugees, and that it's time for other "much more affluent" communities to step up.
