Springfield Officer Convicted In Connection To Student Arrest

A Springfield police officer has been found guilty of assault and falsifying a police report.

The charges against Angel Marrero were in connection to the arrest of a Commerce High School student two years ago.

Marrero was convicted Wednesday in Holyoke District Court following a bench trial, and was sentenced to one year in probation.

Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood says a discipline recommendation will be sought from the Community Police Hearing Board.
