City Council Wants Help From Fed To Change Police Department

A consent decree from the U.S. Justice Department against the Springfield Police Department is getting support from members of the City Council.

A letter has been sent to the DOJ with the signatures of Justin Hurst, Malo Brown, Tracye Whitfield, Orlando Ramos, and now-former councilor Adam Gomez.

The federal government recommended reforms after investigating alleged excessive force and misconduct in the SPD.

The Springfield NAACP and the Pioneer Valley Project publicly called for the consent decree last week.
