Hefty Price Tag For East West Rail

A new study indicates that it would cost a minimum of two-point-four-billion-dollars to connect Boston and Pittsfield by rail.

MassDOT indicates that connecting the east and west areas of the state by rail could be an economic boost along the line.

However, connecting the existing passenger service from Worcester to Pittsfield poses financial and logistical challenges.

The DOT also does not believe there would be much federal funding available for this type of project.

The idea of linking east with the western end of the states is seen as instrumental to bolstering the regional economy.
