A judge has ruled that Springfield-based Smith and Wesson can be sued by victims of a shooting in California.
One person died and three others were wounded in the 2019 shooting at a synagogue in San Diego.
According to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle, a judge in San Diego County Superior Court ruled last week that the victims adequately alleged that Smith and Wesson knew its AR-15-style rifle could easily be modified into an assault weapon in violation of state law.
Therefore, S-and-W is not protected by a 2005 federal law which shields gun manufacturers from most cases of crimes involving their weapons.
There has been no reaction from the the Springfield based company.
