Gunmaker Smith and Wesson broke ground on its new headquarters in Tennessee.
Smith and Wesson will relocate from Springfield to the Knoxville area.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said his state was the perfect place for Smith and Wesson to move to, citing a, quote, "commitment to the Second Amendment". Smith and Wesson said it was leaving Springfield because of a proposed state law that would ban Massachusetts manufacturers from making certain kinds of guns.
The company plans to retain about a thousand jobs at its Springfield plant.
The company is not leaving the city of Springfield totally. There is still a major footprint remaining in the city.
