Deal Reached To Keep Springfield Courthouse Open

There has been an 11th hour settlement in the case of the Hampden County Courthouse. A trial was to begin Monday to determine whether the building would be closed amid health concerns over toxic mold and other issues.

Current and past employees sued the state claiming that the building was not safe--that it created a situation in which five employees died and that many others got sick while working there for years.

Actual details of the settlement have not been released. It is unclear why that is.

But what we do know is that the building will be remediated to code and current health standards and that the facility will remain open.

More details are expected either this weekend or early next week.
