Third Period Barrage Brings Springfield AHL Win Over Hartford

 

The Springfield Thunderbirds on the road allow two quick first period goals, then play solid defense the rest of the way in beating the Hartford Wolfpack 4-2.

The game at the XL Center in Hartford before more than six thousand fans. 

Springfield waited until the final 14 minutes of regulation before starting a barrage of shots and goals from Will Bitten. He got his 16th and 17th goals of the year to tie the game with about 8 minutes left.

The eventional game winner game from the Thunderbirds Martin Frk who scored his 27 goal of the year.

Bitten, who got things started for the Thunderbirds also capped the scoring with an empty net goal at the end to make it 4-2. 

With Joel Hofer in St Louis, Vadim Zherenko got the start and played well facing 31 shots and making 29 saves.

Quick turn around now for the Thunderbirds who will be at home tonight against the Providence Bruins. Game time is 7pm.

Then Sunday afternoon the Thunderbirds will be back on the road against the Bruins in Providence.
