No Final Decision Yet On State Street Amtrak Gate Entrance

The Springfield Mayor is going to the top and personally asking the Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to have Amtrak reopen its access to Riverfront Park for this year's Springfield Fireworks.

The mayor says it has been done for years and the sudden turnout is troubling. It has happened for the past 38 years. In his letter to the Secretary - Dom Sarno says that as a former Mayor- he hopes Buttigieg remembers how important these types of events are for cities.

There are still other entrances that can be utilized if the Amtrak decision stands.

Meantime, the Springfield Mayor has reported overnight that he has talked with Congressman Richard Neal several times over the last day and there has apparently been some progress made on the issue with Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner, but as of this hour there has been no final agreement.
