Casinos Made Bad Bets On Local College Games

Massachusetts casinos are being fined by the state Gaming Commission for sports-wagering violations.

MGM Springfield, Plainridge Park Casino and Encore Boston Harbor are collectively paying 50-thousand dollars.

All of the casinos were flagged for allowing bets on regular-season college basketball games involving Massachusetts teams in February, right after sports-betting was allowed to begin.

In the MGM Springfield case, officials say it stemmed from placing Harvard in Connecticut in the database that prompted the mistake.

Those bets are only able to be placed during March Madness.

The casinos attributed the improper bets to an error in their data systems.
