Renovations Will Expand Section 8 Housing In Springfield

The Massachusetts Housing Partnership is renovating the Van der Heyden Apartments in Springfield's Mason Square neighborhood.

According to the agency, the property owner has agreed to a twenty-year federal contract for Section 8 housing.

Executive director Chrystal Kornegay says the Van der Heyden apartments, built in 1914, are an important affordable housing resource in need of substantial work.

MassHousing has financed 14 rental properties in Springfield totaling nearly three-thousand housing units.
