Heat Forces Early Closing In Springfield and Chicopee

The Chicopee and Springfield school districts are dismissing students early on Wednesday because of the heat.

The Springfield district has also gone ahead and set an early dismissal on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has posted a Heat Advisory for eastern Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties which predicts heat index values of up to 99 degrees.

Cooling Centers have been opened at Springfield Senior and Community Centers throughout the city.
