Springfield Mayor Dom Sarno has declared a State of Emergency in the aftermath of a huge water main break on St James Avenue which closed schools in the city, forces some businesses like Starbucks to close and forced many in the city to boil water first before consuming it.
Dunkins Stores throughout Springfield and Ludlow offered a limited menu.
The Mayor says he has spoken to the Governor and she has offered state support.
The State of Emergency will allow the city to tap into federal resources.
There is bottled water that is being handed out to Springfield residents only at the Jordan Senior Center.
The city water issues. caused my the massive rains that have fallen this week, is not hampering fire services.
Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi says that the pressure is at normal levels within the hydrant system.
Superintendent of Schools Dan Warwick says they will make every effort to open schools for Thursday but that decision has not been made yet.
The Mayor says that he expects to lift the State of Emergency at some point Thursday - but no time specific has been announced.
