Report: Billion Dollars Needed For Shelters Statewide

State officials are estimating that Massachusetts will need to spend close to a billion-dollars on emergency shelters in the upcoming fiscal year. 

The predicted amount includes shelters, support staff and services, intake sites, school district reimbursements and other related costs. 

Officials say the expected amount that will be budgeted for shelters is close to 600-million-dollars. 

The state is running more than 200-million-dollars over budget in shelter costs in the current fiscal year that ends June 30th.
