Councilors Seek Balanced Budget From Pittsfield Mayor

Pittsfield City Council held its first meeting of 2024 on Tuesday and the message to new Mayor Peter Marchetti was to present a budget as close to balanced as possible.

Seven of eleven members of the Council supported a petition to do so.

Marchetti says at least eight-million in cuts will be required.

Mindful of rising property taxes and increased city spending, Marchetti is pursuing campaign promises that he believes will help, including selling the former Hibbard School for a residential conversion.

The mayor is also having a manpower and city policy evaluation made.
