Springfield Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi has been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing in connection with the killing of a raccoon that was showing signs of being rabid.

Calvi – unable to get a trapper to deal with the animal ran over the animal killing it.

The Massachusetts Environmental Police say that although the actions of the Commissioner were troubling – they fell short of being criminal.

State officials say will do outreach with communities to detail their responsibilities in similar situations.

The Commissioner has not commented.
