School Boss Search Remains Tense In Springfield

The search for a new superintendent to head Springfield's school system remains beset by internal arguments.

While the issue at hand is the screening committee's not having a student member, the overarching rift between two school committee members has taken focus.

Chris Collins chairs an Ad Hoc Superintendent Selection Advisory Committee, and a fellow member is School Committee Vice Chairman Joesiah Gonzalez.

The Ad Hoc committee met Monday evening but adjourned without accomplishing anything after Collins accused Gonzalez of violating the open meeting law.

While the goal is to get student representation on the board, the committee did not schedule a follow-up meeting.
