Police Nab Suspect On Warrants, Other Charges

Springfield Police say a convicted felon who was wanted on an outstanding warrant is now in custody.

Police received a call from someone who said 39-year-old Rafael Rodriguez was armed and heading to a bar on Carew Street.

When officers arrived and began to detain Rodriguez, a trafficking weight of cocaine fell to the floor and police found a gun in his waistband.

Rodriguez had an outstanding warrant for heroin trafficking and was convicted in Pennsylvania in 2013 for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

He now faces a dozen charges including cocaine trafficking, witness intimidation, assault and firearms violations.
